Gave all that up during the cord-cutting movement in the 2010s and haven’t looked back. Dumped new car loans and leases. My current car is a 2016, and it’s the only one we have in my little family. We work together to do all the things we want.

Diverted most of that money into investments and savings and can travel a lot more.

I still have some subscriptions, but they are fairly unique services or software for which FOSS alternatives are just too much of a headache for me.

I try to fill my time away from screens and electronics, and as a result I’ve been much happier.

Obsidian.md hands down if you can transition to markdown instead of rich text. Lets users have wiki style hyperlinks to notes.

The thing I most appreciate about Obsidian is, for now at least, they at least partially embrace a sort of FOSS mindset in that they offer a proprietary thing via a sort of compromise: your data is stored in plain text in markdown, so it remains 100% portable and parseable by anything which can parse markdown.

But I get what you mean.

Via their Sync service, yes. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, they officially endorse iCloud to sync your files, which I personally use. They discourage using Dropbox, but I reckon it’s possible.

100W. Even picked up someone with a ground plane antenna four inches off the ground and another fairly distant station who was pushing something like 20W.

Mind blowing how little power it takes to go so far in the right conditions and antenna setup.

If it was in the SSB Tech section of 10m, it probably was. We had a great time. The kids ran around like banshees and slept like logs!
