This is the most brain-dead monument I have ever heard of. On so, so many levels. Wtf I going on? What committee made this decision?
Heath care broke. BC Ferries broke. Housing market broke. Consumer debt through the roof. Inflation may be “under control” but it seems to have effect on daily goods and cost of living, which continues to worsen.
Time we rethink the system. Trying to tweak this broke system won’t help.
You’re bang on. As a linguistic anthropologist I found this “meme” confusing and misleading. And your point about the impossibility of consistency is spot on.
Much ex-mo content is just angry people taking what they think are clever jabs at the church. Most of that content isn’t nearly the ‘gotcha’ meme makers think they are. But man, when ex-mo content hits good, it hits real good haha.
In the most technical sense of the term, yes, billionaires several times over are citizens. But I’d argue that a citizen in the truest sense of the word contributes meaningfully to a community. By hoarding their billions and perpetuating (even exacerbating) exploitation in the pursuit of more billions negates them being true citizens. They reap from society and the environment more than they contribute.
This is so wildly unnecessary and wildly awesome at the same time
If we actually wanna support the essence of what we’re engaging on, we shouldn’t factionalize by user interface and should avoid names attached to Lemmy, Mastadon, or KBin. We should instead be Federates of the Fediverse.
