Oh my, I didn’t even think of this! I was like, “it’s a screenshot from twitter, which I can no longer access without an account, so please don’t link me to twitter, please keep doing the screenshot”.

But you’re right, there should be a transcription along with the screenshot, so people who use screen readers can also participate.

Very good call!

This is deeply shitty. If you’re right that >80% of people on Lemmy are men (I’m not sure I buy that), then it’s even worse to assume everyone is a man. What you’re doing is chasing off the already extremely outnumbered non-men. If you want this place to be welcoming to people who aren’t men, then you need to change your behavior.

Well, luckily for us vegans, it’s hexbear policy that we’re allowed to post about veganism everywhere. Because animal liberation is human liberation. Having more vegan content improves the site by outing anti-vegan reactionaries to be banned.

Anyway, this is all to say, please stop eating animals.

You did the right thing. It’s a lot of bullshit about “oh, you list your pronouns? You must be fine with corporations selling your data” and then at the end there seems to be a bit of “hexbear showed up late to the fediverse party and is ruining everything”, which is, of course, pretty much directly opposite of the truth.

Hey Eel, would you be willing to find some writing from some of these asshole terf-adjacent people who claim non-binary gender for subversive reasons? I believe you (and Serano) that they existed, but I still find it hard to actually grasp, for the simple reason that I’ve never seen a terf claim anything other than the most vulgar kind of cis identity. (They don’t say it like that, of course, they say “I’m a woman because I was born female” or some such nonsense.)

So I’d be really interested to read some writing from one of these jerks, because I do have a hard time grasping how we could get from cynically claiming to be subversively non-binary to the kind of sex essentialism we see today. And I have no idea what to Google to find such writing!

But, I also don’t want to force you to spend time reading transphobic bullshit just to satisfy my curiosity, so please feel free to tell me to fuck off and find it myself, that’s a very fair response!

Hell yeah! Keep going! You got this! (I have not made it that far in Farewell. I will someday I’m sure, but good gosh and golly, Farewell is hard as shit!)

Huh, when I was an instructor, I put any extra credit totally separate, as its own assignment, for pretty much this exact reason. Weird that your instructors aren’t doing that. Maybe the automatic grade calculation system is different than the one I used.

Ah! As someone with a phobia of snakes, nope nope nope nope nope.

But here’s what I think is interesting: I’m actually more freaked out by it being tiny rather than less freaked out. I’d take a large python over this lil fella every day of the week. And I don’t know why that’s true! With spiders it’s the opposite, the little ones are often downright cute and the big ones tend to be pretty unpleasant.
