Debian and Ubuntu derivatives will not install, or if they do they wont boot, on one of machines…due to some weird bug issue thst other distros acknowledge and bypass. Had that been my first experience of linux I would hate it. Thankfully RPM based was my first experience and the hardware had no issues.

I think that was their point no?, it is not people exactly , but an outside influence causing the issue. like the escalator doesn’t stop crushing people unless you hit the stop button. Craigslist is fine if you use the email relay ( don’t use your phone number ) and pre-vet people. You can usually get a sense of who is legit. As far as coming to your house, andly stranger could they don’t need a craigslist invite. Just don’t say “today doesn’t work because I’m not home.” You can also check if there is a local hobby group on Facebook Market place.
This. If it was your sole tool for daily tasks it makes sense, once a month to edit a config file…not so much.
When I started working we had HP Unix Silicon Graphics systems, VI was our only text editor…so I have some commands as muscle memory. The rest of commands I open my tractor feed help printout from 30 years ago
