Geeky and sarcastic, but never too cool for dad jokes. I’m a proud father of two and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. I’ll gladly debate about anything from Sony vs. Microsoft to Kirk vs. Picard, but at the end of the day, I’m all about inclusivity and respecting different opinions.
I know a few people who have done this with Mastodon and it works quite well so far. Just like email, it doesn’t really matter where it’s hosted as long as it’s being respectful and not sending out spam.
That being said, AFAIK you can’t transfer a Lemmy account between instances yet, so if you ever change your mind and want to move to another instance, you may have to create a new account.
I do think Ticketmaster may help in the long run get some bigger names to Halifax. That doesn’t mean I think it’s worth it but I can see why they would make this decision.
This reminds me of how Reddit was after switching from Digg. It feels smaller and more organic and a much more friendly environment. I just feel like I used Reddit for a lot of information and searches for troubleshooting or how to purposes. That vast wealth of knowledge feels like it may be lost.
Same with moving from twitter to a mastodon instance, feels like twitter when it was young.
