This was a good read. Very interesting! I highly recommend it. It gives a compelling account of the conditions Russian soldiers are facing.
Misogyny becomes so normalized and institutionalized in a culture that even women sometimes do things and vote against their own best interests. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were a surprisingly high number of women who voted no.
Case in point, how many Christian conservative women vote against a women’s right to chose whether to carry a child to full term?
How is this not inciting violence and hatred?
I think that the government isn’t moving aggressively on this file because if they did, there would be a massive correction and many landlords would go bankrupt. It would be political suicide.
I think what they are hoping for is that the correction will happen organically and gradually so that they are not blamed for the fallout and so that the impact is diminished. The problem is, I don’t think that people can hold out and regardless, there will be some pain for all groups. The damage is already done, and fixing this will be painful.
A large segment of the population don’t understand the difference between a fact, an opinion, and a belief.
I’m a federal public servant, and I can tell you that in the 28 years I’ve been in government, this kind of leadership is very common. There’s no accountability because there’s nothing that really can be done in the current system. There would have to be a serious overhaul in how government manages poor performance, particularly when it comes to executives.
The Canadian tax payer is the bag holder here.
