No no, that’s what I’m saying. That aside from the instance details, usernames can look exactly the same at a glance.

Very interesting. Thanks a bunch for weighing in. <3

Hey, mind if I ask you a couple Q’s? If yes:

  1. Any idea what the typical beefiness (and therefore cost) of an instance needs to be to handle current & future load? For example, I recall my admin stating that his instance was in the cloud, which I took to mean that he paid a subscription to a server farm to host his instance, i.e. lemm.ee.

  2. I tried to sign up to a kbin.social community earlier today, and it didn’t seem to work the same way that Lemmy communities did. Specifically, it didn’t give me an opportunity to copy-paste a cross-URL in to my instance in order to subscribe. Still not sure if I didn’t bork something up, tho.

  3. Any feedback on my two ‘gloomy’ thoughts near the end of the OP? For example-- I’m hoping to bring my share of Rexxiters to the Fediverse in the coming days & weeks & months, but I’m a bit worried that the total sum of all such folks coming over soon might cause serious havoc with server load, etc.

  4. Also, as you can see, I might be a bit paranoid about Reddit / Huffman’s lackeys deciding to fuck with the Fediverse at some point, but hopefully that’s just me worrying too much.

Thanks for shedding any light upon this stuff, Sparking.

Wow; I didn’t realise how low they’ve been sinking.

Regular removals are just [Removed] for others, while you as the original writer can still see your comment like nothing happened.

What would really help is being able to create a Chrome tab which didn’t access cookies, so that I could check out my Reddit comments as an unlogged-in user. Not sure if that’s a thing, tho, or what it might be called.

EDIT: Whoops; I’m an idiot. “Incognito window” does the trick.

Whoa, this could be useful!

Um, unfortunately I know very little about JavaScript, nor how to get that piece of code to run. Any advice on that?

Btw, it would also be highly useful to copy over the various subs in my 12+ MultiReddits.

I’m here from Reddit, via Lemmy, and have no idea where the “boost link” is. I don’t seem to see anything like that.

Thanks much for that extensive answer. There is much to think about and reconcile with other info I’m coming across, but this really helped!

Thank you, Nepenthe. I think I’ll create a kbin acct to see what it looks like from that side. I’ve heard that it has some advantages over Lemmy’s interface.

In terms of karma, for Lemmy users there doesn’t seem to be a running, total tally the way there is on Reddit. That is-- you can see what karma a user has tallied on individual posts & comments, and you can use that karma to sort stuff on their profile, but otherwise, everyone seems to look the same from a karmic standpoint. (I hope Lord Vishnu isn’t too offended)

I’m having a similar issue here with avatar upload, but in my case I get “Unexpected token ‘R’ Request er is not valid JSON.”

I did resize the image downwards multiple times, in JPG format. Last one I tried was 100x100 in size, 15k, and still got the same message.

I’d also like to know what the visual limits are for avatars, and visual / size limits for banners. Thanks!

EDIT: If it helps, I found this dev / admin response.

Heard THAT!

Even veggie milks seem so high in Kcals, altho getting -plain- veggie milk without sugar does help from that standpoint.

When I make coffee these days, I just use some of the powdered stuff. As a non-coffee connoisseur, it’s ‘good enough,’ and low in BS kcals, salt, sugar, etc.

Another substitution I’m head over heels with is using plain Greek yogurt in place of sour cream and even cheese, to an extent. It’s impressively low in calories, a decently-tasty substitute, and full of nice probiotics for gut, brain, and total-body health. :-)

Seeing something I said inadvertently pissed people off feels way worse than general negative karma

Yeap, I’m totally with you on that. Indeed, IIRC from science studies, the average person’s brain is -way- out-proportioned by sensitivity to negativity & threat-response than it is, all purry (like a happy cat) from positive feedback.

It’s evidently an artifact from our total history of living in clans & tribes for approximately 300k yrs spent living that kind of live before ‘digital, social media’ came along. If you follow me.
