Fantastic! I love the “milpa” method you reference (I’ve always heard it referred to as the three sisters method). Maybe add some onions in future? Chives, green onions and garlic all make for excellent companion plants for some of the stuff you’re growing. And I always make space for herbs, especially perennials.
She’s lovely, and she looks so happy to see you!
It’s gorgeous, well done!
Excellent log, my dog gives it four out of four paws straight up on the air. Because he’s lying on his back like a dead cockroach under my desk right now.
I roasted a big batch of veg (zucchini, mushrooms, onion) on the weekend to go with some roasted chicken legs. I poured the chicken drippings over the veg when everything was cooked. I still had some of it left after finishing the chicken, so I added a few cherry tomatoes and heated it all up in a pan, then tossed in some cooked fusilli and pasta water. Finished it with grated Parmesan. It was delicious!
I always come back to Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books, they are an eternal favourite. I love all Robin McKinley’s books, and Garth Nix’s Abhorsen novels are up there, too.
In terms of a more recent (and shorter) series, I very much enjoyed Katherine Arden’s Winternight trilogy, NK Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy, and so far I’ve liked Freya Marske’s first two books in her The Last Binding series. Honourable mentions for the Dresden Files and Ben Aaronovitch’s Rivers of London (which are just fun).
I have read Mistborn, but a while ago, and to be honest it didn’t really stick with me. I’ve also started the first Malazan (edit, fecking autocorrect) book a few times and just couldn’t get into it.
Toronto has a lot of homeslessness, but I don’t think Ive ever seen a homeless guy using a ruler as a splint on a leg bent the wrong way in Toronto. I don’t want to live in a place that does that to people.
This is a big part of why I don’t think I could ever live in the states. What a cruel place to live.
There is a real threat of harm to various minority groups living in red states. Hell, there’s a real threat of harm to women who can fall pregnant living in red states. I’d certainly not want to live there if my accidentally falling pregnant (which would likely be ectopic in my case) would result in a very high chance of my death.
I mean, that’s like asking which child is your favourite (she says, having no children of her own). I honestly couldn’t pick a favourite - as others have said, the early ones aren’t great compared to the full body of work, but I love all of them.
Perhaps The Last Hero is my favourite owned book, if only because it’s a signed hardcover - I saw Terry speak in the early ‘00s, and had him sign it then.
