I really really like unifi. I suggest it to everyone. But I just think the UDR was a bad release. It has its purpose, but I’d say you want to steer clear of it. It’s 199. The UDMP is $279. I think you will grow out of the UDR very quickly.

UDMP(today it makes sense over a cloud key and a UXG lite), a Poe switch, try one or two AP’s and see if that works. I think the U6 pro(probably two would be all you need, but it’s hard without seeing the environment) would work well for you. I would run Ethernet to these locations and then scale up.

As much as I absolutely despise the UDR because I think it’s underpowered. It might be a good option to wet your beak. But I think you’ll quickly grow into a more powerful device, especially because you want to tinker.

What’s your house size and construction? How many rooms?

What’s your use case?

What’s your technical skill and are you willing to learn hardware?

I’m sure you’re not going to achieve your result for 1000 if you don’t already have your desired Ethernet runs.

Look at your environment. I’m sorry I went with CAT 6 for 2 of my runs. They are my longest at 156 feet. And fluke tested to 5gbps. I am in a very warm humid environment.

I’d say if you can splurge for the Cat6A I would for piece of mind. If not, Cat6 should do.

This looks unnecessarily complex. Just out of curiosity why did you do things this way, rather than get a prosumer/small business router option like unifi, mikrotik or Pfsense?

Imho while cat 5E will likely do. I’d go with the highest you can afford, up to Cat6A. I put in Cat 6 and it’s working well, but one of my runs already is down to 5gbps(tested with a Fluke meter) so I’m regretting not putting in Cat6A.

Monoprice, I use cable matters patch cables, if you have a friend in the business wire path/snap AV.

RTAX88u or whatever they are calling their AX88 series now.

I would avoid cat 7 and go with Cat 6A. If you need more bandwidth, use fiber. I would find a reputable low voltage/AV installer to run the cabling. Replace the jacks. Make sure it’s put bare copper and not CCA.

As for networking equipment, you will need something that minimally does 2.5gbps to achieve your 1.5gbps Wan speed. In addition, the connected device needs to be able to achieve those speeds. This you should be able to order yourself depending on what you go with. I personally like Ubiquiti, however there is a learning curve and there is basically the community here on Reddit, and their own forums for the majority of tech support.

Both options will likely be very expensive.
