Hey! New Ontarian user here. I’m jumping ship from Reddit before my favorite app loses API access. It’s a real shame Reddit went that route.

I’m a software developer by day. I love gaming, sci-fi/fantasy paper/audio books, metal and electronic music.

I hope Reddit suffers a serious exodus. Maybe the secret to ending the cycle of shitty corporate social media is to help with the open source federated approach?

Golden Age, based on your description, seems to fit the description of a lot of my favourite books. I have a hard time picking favourites, so here are a few series, plus a few singles, I absolutely loved:

  • Bobiverse, Dennis E. Taylor
  • Expeditionary Force, Craig Alanson
  • Red Rising, Pierce Brown
  • Foundation, Isaac Asimov
  • The Expanse, James S. A. Corey
  • Children of Time, Adrian Tchaikovsky
  • Project Hail Mary & The Martian, Andy Weir

I moved into a house in Carleton Place this past summer. The way the system here works is: the first bag is free, every addition bag requires a sticker (3$ each). Otherwise you pay to unload garbage at a local waste facility. Most people here buy extra large bags to combine everything as much as possible. With the amount of packing material I had laying around after furnishing my place, the sticker/dumping costs were not insignificant.

Not yet! I hope that eventually this is implemented. Mastodon had a similar problem and they kind of, sort of solved it?!

This is the way for now. I haven’t tried Jerboa but why bother when the Lemmy web UI is already minimalistic

Elder Scrolls Online must still be generating a decent amount of income.
