Yeah the sponsored pins are visible, and annoying. But they have nothing to do with driving and were there for many years. Google hasn’t added anything new, and definitely not any pop ups, like some random person falsely Tweeted and every news site ran with it.

It was all based on someones Tweet, which either made it up or was confused.

There is no popup whatsoever during navigation. The alleged popup screen is actually what appears when you yourself click a pin (whether normal or sponsored). Nothing ever pops up by itself.
