Your brain is working just fine for a normal hard working yet tragically uneducated upper lower middle classer, all three words mean the same thing in traditional English. However, as a liberal I see an opportunity to get my nuance on.

But we cannot melt the Chinese, they would simply melt us back, and so begins the great unthawing, in which we invent newer and newer words for thaw, more than they could possibly represent in their primitive glyph based writing system, they will have no choice but to all learn English, this opens them up to the marketplace of ideas, this makes them vulnerable to debate, and the invisible hand takes care of Taiwan, no nukes required, hopefully, let’s say a minimum amount of nukes, probably just a few well placed tactical ones worst case.
