I find it really really hard to believe that the police were not interested.

Yeah that would explain it. We don’t have anyone who would have that kind of power.

In my country the big telecom companys were broken up in the mid 90s under anti-competition laws. Most of Europe has either done something similar or never really had a big mega corp in that position to begin with.

It’s worth noting that the fastest internet in the world is in South Korea. Because they have their entire network rebuilt a couple of decades ago for some reason probably some war something.

Presumably he was fired for forgetting to turn his camera off. Not for the action itself.

It’s a PR move to try to limit fallout.

Full on criminal investigations take ages, so the firing comes now and by the time the prosecution gets round to criminal charges the police force can have distance themselves nicely in that time.

Well it’s depressing that that’s the explanation.

I will never understand why the US government is happy for large sections of its country to essentially operate as if it’s the 18th century. It is like someone went back in time and gave them all tractors, and coke (both types) but otherwise they’re just carrying on as per.

The US covers of Harry Potter (yeah I know) are awful and a good example of the artist having differently not read the book.

My copy of The Hobbit is really weird it’s just leather and says The Hobbit in gold inset writing.

Absolutely nothing on the back, or even a barcode.

Really old books tend not to have covered designs that seems to be a relatively modern phenomenon.

Nothing. As per usual this law hasn’t been thought out by the people in trying to inact it.

The law requires companies to introduce back doors into their systems. Most of the companies will officially just no longer offer their service in the UK.

There is an absolutely no provision under the current law to do anything about individual citizens or foreign nationals who circumvent (use a VPN) these rules. So basically you’re fine to just carry on as usual and pretend the law doesn’t exist.

What will the UK government do about that? Nothing, because the companies don’t (won’t) officially have any presence in the UK, so there isn’t much pressure that can be put on them, and I highly doubt other countries are going to accommodate them, as they are been ridiculous.

You might say that the government will ban VPNs but firstly that is problematic for companies, and secondly I don’t think they actually know VPN’s exist as a thing anyway.

Yeah they know that. The whole “let’s stop criminals and terrorists” bit is just an excuse.

The conservative government in the UK is really weird and they actually want to be a dictatorship, but they’re just not very good at it. I have no idea why they are doing this.

The thing is it’s also unlikely to achieve that objective as well because they highly likely to be voting out of power next year. So basically this is a pointless law in every possible regard.

They’re just makeing things up now.

Oh, yeah, also you shouldn’t eat noodles because they look like snakes, and snakes are a sign of the devil. Also shoe laces.

I like to point out to these people that it isn’t devil worship, it can’t be, because only Christians believe in the devil. The church of Satan just likes to mock them.

They had something like this in Enterprise. It could only do liquids and it couldn’t replicate the cup, so they had to get the cup out of a little cupboard next to the replicator. Basically a modern day drinks vending machine capable of producing any drink.
