It’s a little different than having “news” vs “worldnews” though, right? You could have 20 communities called “news”, and they all have different content as I understand it.

Thanks for setting it up. This was recommended, so I joined it. Do you mind sharing how you pay for it? Are you prepared to scale it with demand?

Are these extra PCs that you don’t need? I’m confused about why you can’t get rid of them, that sounds like a red flag - are they hoarders? Are they afraid of someone getting the data? I know this is about retro computing but sometimes trying to make semi-old stuff like that useful when you don’t really want it is just going to be a waste of space and electricity.

Do you mean an application that shows your local weather? Or are you trying to DIY an S-band Doppler RADAR transceiver?

I like the Zebralight SC64c LE for it’s size and durability. The UI could be better.

Yeah, that’s a better example. I’m still figuring this out but I’ve had some trouble connecting to communities on other instances, even though the instances are connected.

Are your servers in one geographic region? Could you scale across regions for better performance?

I think this could be problematic if instances aren’t providing a consistent user experience in different regions. If my Flashlight community is on an instance in California, and my Linux community is in Finland, I’m going to have a very asymmetric experience.

Thank you for your work and communication! I agree it doesn’t make sense to invest in global infrastructure unless everyone does it, and the return wouldn’t be worth it. We’ll just have to get used to some performance issues as the fediverse takes off!
