@CleanDefinition @Ghast so true!

I got banned from Subs for asking questions, I couldn’t make my own without the original shadowing me on every search.

But theoretically on Lemmy every community can have a voice, if the rest of Fediverse believes it in, it can flourish. Other servers can’t report you or shadow ban beyond the confines of their server.

If a group tries to bully you they might get their entire server banned so the mod’s would likely terminate the user first

@jaykay @kamasupra sorta… like I’m replying via my Mastodon account. Currently there isn’t post creation, though some googling has shown that it’s something they’re working towards.

But you basically copy the Fediverse Logo Link of a post and paste it on search in your mastodon client. It appears as a toot and you can comment; Lemmy will display it natively like this comment.

Favoriting the post on Mastodon counts as an upvote.

Communities appear as group accounts.

@Korlock @nodsocket I get what you’re saying, the internet’s always been like that. But it’s ultimately the internet themselves who pay the end price like now.

RSS was widely accepted, until google made something convenient. Now we’re back to established sites getting first dibs on what you see like old media. Then theres XMPP, man… google… Googles tender embrace turned into deadly smothering.

You can see websites attempting the same thing as Tumblr adds ActivityPub.

@Lurra @nodsocket same wasn’t that interested in Reddit/Twitter until Twitterific/Apollo came out. I tried using the regular twitter app but was too slow, and didn’t leave my feed where I left off last. Apollo was so snappy and I loved save categories.

But the Fediverse has accountability and boundaries. So generally speaking most communities that are connected closely are generally positive. Anything that falls out of line gets blacklisted, so I’ve never felt so at peace.

@if_you_can_keep_it @Rogueren Assuming that one Federated Service is the end all be all user experience for what you’d like to share can hurt many. In Mastodon I kept seeing people (during the Twitter Exodus) who wanted multi-sever posting to each local feed under one account. Like Lemmy’s cross site posts, not sure if Lemmy lets you cross post multiple times to different communities. But some basically wanted Mastodon to work like Lemmy and FB Groups.

e.g. Main Post -> Community 1, Community 2

@garfaagel @inspxtr I think he’s saying that if you use open standards on closed source/“if it ain’t broke” systems? Kinda like how Apple mostly takes from Open Source with little give back to the communities it benefits from??

@neamhsplach My favorite one is the reply to saving those monks, “Fat chance! You can’t count on God for jack. He pretty much told me so himself.”
