I have a “heard it before it was released” story:
Was seeing Tyrant (Lee Burridge + Craig Richards) DJ live in Shibuya. I was in the Navy at the time so the only thing I did was shrooms and ecstasy because our ship did randoms regularly. I was tripping on shrooms that night and Lee threw on this track that was just amazing. I had to find out the name of it so I made my way up to the stage and asked the bouncer if he might be able to find out for me. A couple minutes later here comes Lee down off the stage, spilling his rum and coke, and shouts in my ear, “You enjoying the show?” and I’m like “Hell yeah! What was that track you just played?” He’s like, “Do you smoke pot?” I’m just, “No I’m in the Navy. They test for that!” And he’s like, “No, that’s the name of the track!” and he drags me up on the stage so I can watch Craig throw it down. Amazing night. I miss the old rave days.
I got sucked into playing Witcher 3 again. I swear I’ll finish it this time! I’ve also been playing an early access indy game called Inkulinati, and when I need some mindless kick-ass action, I have my go-to TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge.
That’s because it’s still new and not super user friendly/a little confusing. I am still figuring things out here, but I love it because the tone and vibe remind me of the older net before it became super accessible and the unwashed masses started to outnumber the real nerds.
I’ve seen it happen with many sites, boards, communities, etc. A haven is created, it becomes popular, it has a golden age, it becomes flooded with idiots/spam/bots/trash, dies, and a new place arises and the cycle starts again. I watched it happen with icq, AOL chat rooms (and AOL itself), MySpace, Facebook, reddit, YouTube…
Some take longer than others to go through parts of the cycle, but they always do.
I’m going to have to read up on Soulseek. I literally just rejoined the high seas yesterday, and I have to catch up on all the changes as it’s been years since I last donned my eyepatch. Right now I’m running qbittorrent and just ducking for magnets (google sucks, search with ducks!).
Ah, influences for absolute sure; polyrhythm drumming makes my dick wet and my panties hard. I was under the impression that they sounded like TOOL, but that could’ve been my misunderstanding. In any case, they are fucking awesome and my face melts right the fuck off every time, even without the acid. \m/
