John Fogerty is unfortunately a self admitted lib but I’ve always liked this song.

Huh. I always thought it was an anti-draft song at least.

I read the same thing and that it was basically a criticism of class. The rich start the wars while the poor are made to fight them.

I wouldn’t say it’s reactionary but it’s an example of how wierdly myopic American liberals’ anti-war stance is when put under the microscope. Not always but I see it often.

The wars that America wages can be opposed on the very fundamental grounds that they cause incalculable loss of life and property to hapless civilians in other countries. To me see this seems like not just a strong enough argument on its own but also the strongest ones. But the song never talks about it. IMO the war should be opposed even if sons of rich men were drafted. Another similar argument is how money that can be used to fund healthcare is being used to fund wars. What if hypothetically healthcare was being funded and the wars were being waged at the same time? IMO the wars should still be opposed.

I don’t know why this is. Maybe Americans struggle to perceive global south people as humans or maybe some marketing agency with their focus group deemed this line to be more effective.
