I was pruning a ground hugging bush today and grumbling to my wife about having to take the prunings to the dump. "Why not just hide them in the bush?" she said. Problem solved.

The way I see it, You are letting the nutiments back into the ground the plant is growing on, To my mind that is more akin to what would happen in the wild anayway.
