I don’t like YT Music’s library management. They’re mixing with M/Vs and “proper” songs. Some of their songs are badly compressed, compared to Spotify.
And don’t forget, wala pang dedicated curated playlists for PH si YT Music na ironically ang lakas ng YT sa Pinas. Haha
No more ads
You can watch YouTube with no ads by installing uBlock Origin on your desktop browser, or install NewPipe on Android. No Google account needed. Huwag papakain sa sistema ni Gugel.

For our use case, it isn’t really a big deal. Most of my family is listen to music via the phone speakers or budget earphones. I’m the pickiest one and I don’t mind it for casual listening.

This one would have been great, but it isn’t a deal breaker.

I can do all of this (I have both uBlock, NewPipe, DNS-based and VPN-based adblocking, etc.), but I got the family plan for, well, the family.
As the designated tech guy in the family, I didn’t think managing all of it for 5 other family members at different locations is worth it for me.
I recently setting up my family’s smartphones and their home PC with Firefox Browser and uBlock Origin and NewPipe (Android). Plus, we’ve been on Spotify since 2015, and that time hindi pa namin alam na may Family plan. We have similar DNS settings, except mine allows pornographic websites lol.
I did this because I don’t want my family “hooked” on their YT algorithm with their personalized content. NewPipe is a bliss, and doesn’t track nor exploit users, unlike proprietary YouTube app.
Yeah, I used to try to setup everything for my family. To the point where I setup a flavor of Linux as the primary OS in the family desktop with all the non-proprietary alternative applications.
There came a point where I figured I was taking on too much responsibility. And in a way I think I just liked learning to do this stuff before.
Now, aside from security-related things like recommending password managers, MFA, and the occasional anti-scam PSA, I just let them be.
In the end, I just found not having to manage this small thing of music streaming and ad-free YT pretty worth it at the cost of 40PHP per month per person.
