Was tempted to call this “Debate 2: Electric Boogaloo” but a) A lot of Lemmy won’t get the OG reference. and 2) “Boogaloo” has been co-opted and carries an unfortunate connotation these days.

Also, while it’s Trump’s 2nd debate of the season, it’s Harris’s first…

It’s being run by ABC News at 9 PM Eastern time, 6 PM Pacific, I see MSNBC starts their coverage TWO HOURS EARLY. That’s a lot of air time to fill, guys. Good luck!

I’m really going against the grain from lemmy. Trump certainly did not win, but Harris lost.

Trump performed as expected, rambled and lied, but we can all be honest in saying this affected his polling very little. I think the best (or worst depending on who you are voting for) case scenario is if this dog / goose thing ends up being true and Trump can ride that wave of calling every other correction false and in control of his enemies (before anyone says it, I refuse to believe the word of one politician over another, I want hard proof it is happening or hard proof it is not).

Kamala lost though. Trump got her a few times especially at the beginning. She also most definitely fucked herself over shilling for Israel and oil / fracking. She is definitely pushing the young vote away and into the green party territory which will impact her where it counts. She also brought up her gun ownership and how she will not go after firearms, but she has claimed in the past to support “assault weapons” bans and madatory buyback programs.

Best case scenario, this debate had 0 influence, worst case, slight increase to Trump depending on the next few days. The biggest loser of tonight? The American People for having to choose between these two.

I hear what you’re saying but do you really think young people watched the debate? Debates are really just for sound bites for ads and Harris got what she needed there. Most young people just ingest the debates via shorts on YouTube, TikTok, etc and it’s easy to pull out the best stuff for those.

Trump’s biggest problem is he is essentially at his ceiling of voters, about 46%.

While true, it has already begun. I had someone send me the Israel clips earlier, and another send me the dog eating clips. I think she got good sound bites, but in the end it might not have the desired affect.

She had too many rehearsed and prepared statements she needed to jam in. She sounded both prepared and unprepared. tRump is a loon which we knew going in, while not a complete wash her performance could have been much stronger.

That’s a fair assessment, she wanted to play both sides and ended up worse because of it.

I don’t think she was trying to play both sides. I think they didn’t wanna fumble, and they did a great job of that after the Biden debate. I think they were playing a little too safe to not alienate anyone and spent too much time reminding us how much of a train wreck tRump is. We know. We’ve known.
