You mean “don’t use a higher gauge” I assume
Lower gauge = thicker wires = can handle more power
The magic term is “contractor cord”
But above all, never pull more than 12 amps from a regular household outlet. Most of them are only designed to deliver 15 amps. Even at 12 you risk tripping the circuit breaker.
