Why is this distro still on number one position in distrowatch.com?

MXLinux is quite simply an excellent, well built distro. Not that there aren’t others, there are. I don’t use MX these days because I prefer to use Debian Sid. MX by design does not encourage that. MX Linux serves those folks who seek to use many, diverse, reliable options.

As for Distrowatch numbers and their reliability (or meaning) you should be cautious. Here’s a pretty good discussion of what their numbers may or may not mean. In the end there are simply a lot of good reliable distros. Use the one(s) you like best. https://thepcspy.com/read/do-distrowatchs-statistics-equate-popularity/

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
