It’s so horribly imperfect that I hate it. The limit of the spiral seems to be the side of the cat’s nose and not an eye or any other prominent feature. The spiral misses the natural curve of the tunnel by a wide margin, too.
It’s just another example of a Fibonacci spiral being forced to “fit” a photo when it makes no sense, and doesn’t really fit at all.
The first two major subdivisions of the starting rectangle create an intersection that is roughly close to the intersection created by the “rule of thirds”. This intersection is a very natural place for people to place a subject when taking a photo. It’s trivially easy to overlay a Fibonacci spiral on such a photograph and line it up with the subject. The fact that there’s a natural spiral in tunnel that sort of lines up is just another coincidence. Nothing else about the Fibonacci spiral matches any feature of the photo in any meaningful way. You brain simply sees it as “close enough” and found it interesting when its really not. Not once you’ve seen a million of these spiral overlayed on a million photos.
Listen man, it’s made to fit the picture for the sake of a joke. Can we just leave it at that?
