Portuguese immigrants in Canada from mainland Portugal say this about people from the Azores. I heard it a lot growing up.

Oh I’m Azorean so maybe that’s why I didn’t think of that… We’re not inbred!!!

Rest assured, I’m from Lisbon and all family is as well. I never thought of any place in Portugal as “inbred” (other stereotypes apply to different regions though). Love the Azores, btw.

My inlaws are from São Miguel. I can’t understand their accent, but that’s probably because my Portuguese is terrible and I can only understand my own family. I need to visit the Azores one day. They’re so pretty.
