How was quake 2 bland? It was grim, fast paced. Had hours of gameplay and some large maps. The multiplayer was pretty good too.

It was my first multiplayer game though, so i’m definately biased, but it did so much more with basic hardware back in the day. And the custom map auto downloading and servers were great.
A much better introduction to multiplayer gaming then some of the stuff today.

It was a technical marvel, but the gameplay definitely wasn’t the best of its time and the art direction was sort of bland too. With other options, it just didn’t really click.

I didn’t play that one much multiplayer though. I will say that action quake 2 was awesome.

In my household playing multiplayer, we enjoyed Doom, the original quake (especially with mods like drastic reaper) and duke 3d, then the next really big multiplayer experience was unreal tournament which was and still is amazing.

My brother and I used to play Quake a lot online. In 1998 we faced the choice of both buying Half-Life or Quake II. I am happy that we chose Half-Life, and once we got Quake II it was apparent that we made a very good choice.
