Tiny native bees all buzz around on my back deck under the ceiling fan. Very cute. Can’t catch one or get close enough to tell which species they are.

Any idea why they hang out where they do? They never seem to land. The backyard is bereft of bee interests with the exception of the clover that the honey bees love (it’s all earmarked for landscaping, there’s gonna be plenty of things to support native fauna when I do). But I’ve never seen these little guys anywhere in the yard other than up away from anything remotely natural. It’s a wooden deck with some outdoor furniture. That’s it.

I’d happily put something on the deck for them but I don’t really know what they are… Or if they need/want anything.

I don’t really know much about what they’d want apart from pollen/nectar, but they might be one of the types that like little hollows to nest in so if you want to get something for them maybe try one of this sort of bee house thing.

The icon is a Gang Gang Cockatoo, which is a pretty cool bird and also the ACT faunal emblem.
