going back and changing stuff wont do any actual good for anybody

I donā€™t think itā€™s so outrageous to think the developers / artist came together and said something along the lines of ā€œhey weā€™re in a different place than we were back when we released this, and are no longer comfortable with the social/sexual/racial/etc. overtones in some parts of the game.ā€

Itā€™s helps them, itā€™s their work and their expression being put out into the world; they have every right to want to alter it as their moral compass shifts.

The only actually shame is that their initial work seems to have attracted a pretty weirdly rabid & horny fanbase that canā€™t stand their change in tone.

From the article:

ā€œThe current devs (who were not the original developer team from 10+ years ago) thought they had to change what worked perfectly for over a decade and run the gameā€™s sprites through 4Kids-style censorship by removing such ā€˜offensiveā€™ elements as armbands and panty shots, for the reasons and moral standpoint known only to them,ā€ wrote one recent Steam reviewer.

I have no horse in this race - Iā€™ve never played the game, nor intend to suggest Iā€™m some kind of moral judge capable of deciding whether the changes are good or bad - but assuming that information is correct, this is new Devs that purchased the rights to the game changing the original creators design.

Is that even true? I was under the impression that the bulk of the original artists & devs initially left behind the original studio (Lab Zero) after the head guy was outed for sexual misconduct, but then they formed the current studio (Future Club) and have kept working on Skullgirls w/ the DLC.

yeah, but didnā€™t the headguy, you know, do most of the artistic direction of it?

itā€™s their work and their expression being put out into the world; they have every right to want to alter it as their moral compass shifts.

And itā€™s the right of the audience to express their dissatisfaction with those changes, especially in regards to a product they already paid for.

Thatā€™s such a disingenuous argument lol. I have a hard time imagining anyone paid for Skullgirls specifically because of the content that they altered in this patch.

Itā€™s such insane outrage over nothing, and anyone complaining so vehemently using takes like that is just hiding the fact that theyā€™re just terminally horny.

Iā€™ve read that much of the content that was altered were in the Kickstarter as milestones. Iā€™ll have to get evidence later though

People pay for content as a whole. You probably didnā€™t buy your car for the badge on the front, but youā€™d be pretty pissed if the manufacturer came by and ripped it off, no?
