Ok, what I would like is to be able to access Kali from my server, but inside and outside my network.

I also do not want to use VNC.

Should I do a Kasm container? A VM instance?
Any suggestions or best practices?

Install Proxmox on the host, then Kali and Truenas as VM’s under it. Tailscale or Zerotier to create a vpn to access it securely remotely.

Why would I use ProxMox as the host when I’m hosting with TrueNas Scale?

Because it would make it easy to run both Truenas Scale and Kali, rather than trying to make Kali run under Truenas
