Latinx is hated by the majority of Hispanic people because itโ€™s unpronounceable in Spanish, so you can drop that one.

(Am Hispanic ftr, despise the term)

Ok but itโ€™s not a Spanish term. Do they also complain about all the other English words that exist?

Not that I support latinx, but thatโ€™s a pretty lame excuse to be against it

Who told you that?

Why do you think itโ€™s a Spanish term?

Nah, Latino is a word that springs from spanish. It isnโ€™t actually an English word, it just got borrowed.

So, not only was the word co-opted from Latino people, the crazy crackers decided that they could ignore the objections of Latinos to the change to their words. Thatโ€™s as opposed to the not-crazy crackers that know better than to fuck around with someone elseโ€™s internal labels

Seriously my dude, if you donโ€™t know any latinos well enough to ask about this kind of thing, youโ€™re missing out. My best friendโ€™s husband is Nicaraguan, and heโ€™ll do this half hour long rant in spanglish about it that is impressive in both scope and venom. And you donโ€™t even wanna hear his mom go off about it! She gets mean lol.

Lol what? Where do you think English gets me out of its words.

Copoted? Are you kidding?

โ€œTheirโ€ words? The term originated from LGBT AMERICAN Latinos. Itโ€™s an English term because it originated in American by Americans Latino heritage. You need to stop gatekeeping basic words.

if you donโ€™t know any latinos well enough to ask about this kind of thing

Ask about what kind of thing? If they donโ€™t like it thatโ€™s totally fine. I really donโ€™t care one way or the other. It has 0 impact on me. But to say the word itself is racist and co-opted is also just stupid

What does this have to do with anything other than people can have preferences

A nonbinary person of Hispanic origins I watch on YouTube uses โ€˜Latineโ€™

Yeah thatโ€™s a more generally agreed upon one. I personally use Hispanic or Latino as an adjective, and Latine for singular gender neutral
