Hi, no update yesterday as I was out of town but now we’re back to the usual release cadence. This release brings an image uploader to comments (and other places), swipe to go back navigation, a new icon, and more.

Changelog

  • Added ability to attach images to comments/the post body
  • Added swipe to go back navigation
  • Switching users should now refresh the drawer correctly
  • Improved image caching, things should feel snappier now
  • Added option to force links to open in external browser
  • Added option to enable/disable swipe navigation
  • Fixed an issue with pinch to zoom images, preventing accidental closes when trying to zoom in
  • Added subscriber count when searching communities
  • Community search results are now ordered by subscriber counts
  • Removed a border between comments now that we have dividers, the goal was to break up comments a bit visually but the border isn’t needed if we have dividers.
  • Added a new icon (credit to @Kuvwert@lemm.ee for designing it)

I’m looking into a issue with using ‘hide read posts’ where if the entire first page is read it won’t load the second page.

The missing image uploader on comments was really the last thing keeping me from deleting the rest of the Lemmy apps on my phone. Well done…

EDIT: Dang, that swipe-to-go-back implementation is smooooooth…

Now it’s mostly just “would be nice” type additions I’m hoping for, like:

  • Showing my avatar & banner at the top of the side-menu when they exist, instead of just the username & instance name
  • Tactile vibration feedback when collapsing a thread
  • Removing the divider lines between cards on card view (now that card view is fixed)
  • Saving settings without having to hit the “Save Settings” button that I always forget
  • Maybe a bit more graceful error messaging at the bottom of the screen (e.g. replacing the raw 502 & 504 error outputs we’re seeing so much right now with a shorter “Sorry, the server is overloaded.” type message)

And I know this isn’t helpful or productive, but yikes does that icon remind me of some awful cryptocoin…

Agree with the error messages. Especially whilst lemmy.world is having issues, I’m seeing them a lot. Maybe having a little small popup you can dismiss, similar to how Sync did it?

Haptic feedback for all swiping gestures would be a godsend 🙏
