I need some help with what to look for here. I understand what function I want but as always it’s a bit tricky with the terminology and what to look for.

To keep it simple:

I want to temporarily set a 4G router next to a device, connect the device to the router LAN, and then remotely access the device via the LAN.

  1. 4G router

  2. Device on router LAN

  3. PC to connect remotely to router LAN

This is just to keep an eye on a specific device during a shorter time period and then bring it back until I want to set it up with another device in a different place.

What exactly am I after here to keep it as simple and flexible as possible while still being reasonably secure (relatively speaking since it won’t connect to any other network)?

Appreciate any advice.

Thank you!

I’ve used Dell Mini PC’s and Tailscale to do what /u/leewhat suggested. Works very well. You can find used ones on eBay for cheap. If you don’t want to order anything and just want to use what you have, pretty much any PC will do - even a laptop.
