The man squats 600… he can do what the fuck he wants. I’m sure your flat souls are helping your 200 pound squat

Running shoes are kind of designed to pull/roll and have a bunch of different styles of soles, most of which are designed to absorb some sort of impact so they aren’t supper stable. Adding 600 pounds or whatever probably flattens them out, but there are squat shoes that provide a flat/stable base with a slightly elevated heel so you’re not relying on the side of your ankle to stabilize but just flat shoes are fine. The problem with running shoes is they’re designed to move your feet which is the opposite of what you want in a squat.

You want shoes that are flat with a wide toe box (or barefoot if you’re allowed to).

CrossFit shoes like Reebok Nano or Nike Metcons will serve you well. I wear TYR CXT 1 trainers myself.

A pair of plain old chucks are popular too but if you get serious about squatting you’ll want to look into shoes like I mentioned above or a pair of actual lifters to let your toes spread out a bit.

Flatness and toebox width are not at all necessary for a good shoe for squatting.
You want non-compressing soles, and some folks benefit from a raised heel. I personally squat in flat shoes, but weightlifting shoes are very common.

People are downvoting you, but you’re right. It’s increases injury and worsens form. But it’s hard to see a guy squat 600 and say anything other than ‘god damn that’s a lot of weight.’

Those don’t look like running shoes, they look like they have non-compressing soles.
