As someone who loves looking at alternate history and world building, especially with maps, it’s infuriating how every other post on r/imaginarymaps is something like this. Lib/chud wish fulfillment is painful to look at.
I’m not 100 percent sure. All I know is that now the area is called Xinjiang, so if this map is from the future, why would it be called sinkiang? Even if it’s a correct name from the past it wouldn’t make sense to use it for the future unless your only source of geography is hoi4

That’s exactly it. HOI4 isn’t particularly wrong to use the spelling since it’s contemporary. But whatever idiot made this doesn’t know anything else about the region.
Edit: or maybe they think Pinyin is some evil communist invention and that a restored republic would use old, western made spellings because CCP bad.
