I, like many here, have migrated over from reddit and trying to recreate all the subreddits I’ve been subscribed to. The ones I miss the most are personal finance and investing. I found this one but there doesn’t seem to be much activity here?

Communities have to be nurtured and tended. Start posting content and see whether it grows. Be prepared for it to take a while though. People are still exploring and finding all the books and crannies.

Agreed. I’ve been trying to actively participate in communities that I would otherwise just lurk in.

I guess you’re right, we need to actually post content for others to join. It’s tough because I don’t necessarily have anything to post right now, but it was nice to scroll through the subreddit to find new things in the personal finance topics.

I’ve come to realise that Reddit trained me to simply consume content rather than be an active participant in a community. This makes sense when you realise that they are selling advertising and have a small number of people who generate enough content for others to consume.

Lemmy is meant to be a community, so I’m finding I’m having to step up and actually contribute by way of commenting, posting and modding.

Same here. I’ve been an avid lurker on Reddit for over a decade, but trying to comment and post here so there’s activity.
