The survey, conducted THIS WEEK by Harvard-Harris polling, found 51% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 said they believed the long-term answer to the Israel-Palestinian conflict was for “Israel to be ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians.”
Only 32% said they believed in a two-state solution, and just 17% said other Arab states should be asked to absorb Palestinian populations.
I guess I owe tiktok an apology
There’s a lot of youthful cringe, but then there’s stuff like this that gives me big hope for the future
I’m like 40. It’s hard to emphasize to younger people just how bleak the position of “the left” was when I was in high school. Michael Moore was the furthest left person in the public eye and he was regularly excoriated by everyone (which is why, even though he’s a lib I have a soft spot for him). The “best” position kids had at the time that I can remember was “hey, maybe gay people should have the same rights as everyone else”.
The worst of it was just how uninterested kids in my day were with the wider world. Apolitical was the default. No one gave a shit. Giving a shit got you branded as a weirdo. When I see videos like the those kids in SF chanting “from the river to the sea” and the other students cheering them on, I go full bloomer. The kids are definitely alright.
