At some point in 2023, Crunchyroll decided that their users should not be allowed to stream their anime on through the website on mobile. This is a huge turn off for me, as I have developed a habit of keeping a Crunchyroll show on as a tab in the browser, which I would hop in an out as I do other things. I don’t know why they want to force me to use the app, nor do I care, as it is the service is unusable for me.

For those who also want to switch off Crunchyroll, I will say Hidive is a good platform to throw some money at in 2024. They have been carrying many high quality shows in the past year, and you can stream via the website anywhere. Although, their app is pretty bad, for those who care.

It must be an IOS / iPadOS thing then.

More specifically, I am on an iPad.

That wouldn’t surprise me at all. At work we added video calls to our application and iOS has some weird restrictions for browsers. Don’t know if that’s related but it’s the closest experience I have.

I’m using Android.
