Well tbf as well, innovative is as subjective as game of the year, what seems to be innovative to some might not be one for another. Itā€™s hard to define ā€œinnovationā€ because itā€™s simply a process of putting in change on an established thing. Try google ā€œinnovative product of (year)ā€ and you might see a tons of ā€œisnā€™t it just x but yā€ product.

In my case i havenā€™t played Starfield nor Baldurā€™s Gate 3 so i wouldnā€™t know whether they deserve the award or not, if people think it does, hey, more power to them. Steam Award is a popularity contest voted by people anyway, taking it seriously is missing the point.

I donā€™t think Iā€™ve actually heard a single person unironically assert Starfield is ā€˜innovativeā€™ā€¦

I assert nothing though.

Not saying you did. Iā€™m saying while ā€˜innovativeā€™ might be subjective, itā€™s hard to see how it actually could deserve the ā€˜most innovativeā€™ title when practically nobody would agree to that claim. Itā€™s fairly obvious the vote had little to do with the actual game.
