I once argued that Gandalf, with his mastery of magical fireworks, should have worked with the dwarves and elves to make a single stage rocket launcher with the ring as a payload. The Soviets made single stage rocket launchers that could make it the roughly 300 miles from Rivendale to Mordor, so I figured with the craftsmanship of the dwarves, the light and strong materials of the elves, and Gandalf’s magical fireworks they could make something to go at least a hundred miles.
