Iโ€™m wondering what the current favorite distros are besides the most popular ones like Arch, Debian and Fedora.

Are there even other (good) distros that arenโ€™t based on debian, fedora, or arch?

Considering pretty much all of the best distros are based on those three, probably the best youโ€™ll get is trying BSD. I canโ€™t think of a single distro not based on one.of the three that is still maintained.

Off the top of my head I can think of Gentoo, NixOS, Void, Guix and Slackware. Although idk if Slackware is mantained.

edit: I forgot about Alpine Linux

edit 2: forgot about OpenSUSE

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word โ€œLinuxโ€ in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
