And just so I understand your point, you’re suggesting that if the use of these weapons systems, which are already being used in this fight, incites Russia to use nuclear weapons, that will be the fault of the US, and not the fault of Russia who both started this war of aggression and escalated it to the use of nuclear weapons in your hypothetical. Oh are Ukrainian civilians in danger? How would you calculate the risk of cluster munitions to Ukrainian civilians? Here’s some math for you: If the number of Russian casualties CMs inflict forces Russia to withdraw even 1 day earlier than without then take that risk, realizing it will be mitigated by significant effort to find and defuse any stragglers WHILE DOING SO ANYWAYS FOR ALL THE MINES EVERYWHERE ALREADY, and weigh it against the far more actually costly and constant threat the Russian campaign of missile and drone terrorism is for these same civilians.
At the very least (edit: Ukrainian) CMs will be used in areas far away from any Civilian presence and won’t be targeting hospitals and schools. FFS
