Thrilled to have found a Lemmy knitting group! I’m a sock obsessive, I just love knitting socks, so I’ve ended up with an staggering amount of “scrap” yarn. The solution - blankets. This is my second Cosiest Memories project and this time I have a Plan. The first one was truly random, with lots of placement errors. When it was finished I did a dark icord edge, and suddenly it was smart!

So for the second one I’m adding an inner border of that same colour and (eventually) will finish with icord. I might even knit some more socks!

This is mad - I posted this from lemmy.sh.itjust.works, but then couldn’t see the post on my profile, or interact with the replies. So I signed up to lemmy.world, so now I can reply to the replies, but obviously the post doesn’t show up on my profile here either. I’m as confused as Father Dougal. https://youtu.be/bZ4XdqQrT20?t=274

Lol you are discovering all kinds of technical issues that I’ve not seen a single other Lemmy user have. Congratulations? 😂

Did you maybe still have the community blocked on the original profile? Maybe that’s why it didn’t show up.

I don’t know - in my profile the community shows on my subscribed list. There’s nothing to say I’ve blocked it, so no way to unblock it. I’m baffled but hey, just create another user and move on! 😁 I love it here.

Since subscribe and block are two different buttons in the community sidebar I’m wondering if maybe it’s possible to be subscribed but still have it blocked, if you see what I mean? Sorry I know you’ve moved on I just have a very curious mind lol.

Anyway excellent blankets! :D

This is such a fun idea! I also love knitting socks but thankfully am super slow at it so my collection of leftovers isn’t too bad yet.

Been collecting a list of scrappy patterns for the day it becomes unmanageable though. A nice lap blanket is a great idea, bet it’s really fun to look at these and remember which project each yarn is from :D

That’s the best thing about it, remembering who I knit what pair of socks for.

I love this! I’ve got a similar one but I don’t pick it up very often; I just add a square here and there when I finish a project / when I remember. Yours looks so pretty.

I love it! Reminds me of crochet blankets with the little squares. Are all of the yarns the same thickness? Sorry if that’s a dumb question I’m new to knitting.

Generally “sock yarn” tends to be fingering weight (US) / 4-ply (UK) / whatever they call it in other parts of the world. And it’ll generally include something like nylon or similar to make it more hard wearing, too.

Most of it is superwash merino, you can throw it in the washing machine.

Ah that makes sense, I think I skimmed the “sock” part to mean “scrap from former sock projects” rather than “sock yarn”. I know you generally make socks from sock yarn but, you never know!

There are no dumb questions! Yes, it’s mainly 4ply sock yarn, though some squares are lace-weight held double.

I started one of these - and to try to mitigate the mad colours, I’ve been putting a white square every other square - But I LOVE your solution so much more! I can see some frogging in my future!
