Humanity used to leave long lasting artefacts behind but since the age of computers, everything became ephemeral. I wonder if archeologists will miss much of the current cultural production just due to the lack of a material medium

The study discounts piracy as a method which makes sense but copyright/ownership definitely prevents a lot of legitimate items from being preserved, not only with games but everything. I kind of wish there was a committee in charge of archival.

This has gotten me thinking about legal deposit requirements, such as those that have existed for centuries in certain countries where published works must have a copy submitted to a national library for conservation purposes. Does anyone know if there are initiatives like this for video games? How are they going?
