Black and White e-ink panel, but no SIM or eSIM, for $280

That could be a nice, mostly distraction-free “phone” for work to read my emails, check my calendar, send chat, etc

No SIM, not even e-SIM could be a problem.

I have WiFi access in the office and at home, good enough for work.

Nice! But it won’t be a full fledged phone replacement for most people because of using the phone (such as for GPS/music/podcasts) in the car where there is no wifi access.

That seems super expensive for what it is or are e-paper devices just that expensive?

Not at all. There are quite a few cheap e-readers out there. I’ve had the pleasure of owning a few, and I’m afraid I never wished Android would run on one.

I made the mistake of buying an Android one (Icarus) years back…despite the eink display, the battery life was barely better than a phone due to the overhead of running the OS. Plus, most Android apps were unusable because they depend on scrolling and high refresh rates.

This looks legitimately nice and I kind of want one. Small e-reader device.

Looking at this, are there other small e-readers? I really just like the no distraction and the e-ink screens.

There are a couple out there. Inkpalm is a pretty popular one.

unfortunately not available in my country(Philippines).

They’re barely available in the US. A lot of times it’s through resellers like goodereader.

There’s one that is only partially translated to English, so even after changing the options, there are still menu options that show up in Chinese.

I guess my point is, if AliExpress ships to the Philippines, that’s about as good as you’ll find anywhere.

I just really want a colour e-reader for comics

Boox have a color Android e-reader too, and I run Tachiyomi on it, and it’s awesome reading manga and comics on it. And because it’s Android, I can still use Kindle and other platforms to get legit books, without having to buy or invest into a single proprietary e-reader platform.
