I just switched to Android after being a very long time iOS user and I’m somewhat at a loss at the best apps and must-haves of Japanese content, dictionaries and similar stuff.

What are your best recommendations?

I live in Japan and survive completely with Takoboto and Kanji Study.

I could go completely with Kanji Study but for the fact that it doesn’t do deconjugation and minor error correction like Takoboto, which is a lifesaver when trying to look up words that I only heard. For example, if you type in けいしき, it will still show 景色, and if you type in こべ, it will still show 神戸, and if you type in れんこう, it will still show 連合.

Todai Easy Japanese: it sources news articles from different places, adds furigana, long press words to get dictionary entry/readings/etc. and users can contribute translations for the articles.

Ankidroid: it’s the offical anki app, for free (unlike iOS)

And i have a shortcut to jisho.org, since they don’t have an app

Interesting! I’ve seen people use Notion before but my experience with it is basically zero! I’ll have to give it a shot for sure!

Also, does Takoboto or Jisho offer a more robust dictionary? I used Imiwa on iOS, but it has no Android app.

I think tokoboto and josho are based off the same dictionary but I prefer tokoboto as it is an offline dictionary whereas jisho isnt

Notion is quite nice, there’s a bunch of neat customizations you can do. Alternatively handy for just using premade ones as well. I believe there’s some easy options for collaborating and sharing, which may come in handy. I don’t have experience using those features however.

I actually don’t have experience with Takoboto, but I’ll check it out since you mentioned it. Cheers.
