Saw a post about a user saying he enjoys reading the modlogs for some reason. So I went ahead and checked it out which got me thinking…

Have we deleted/censored anything in this instance yet? Have we banned anyone yet?

Anyone willing to take one for the team/instance?

(The last line was a joke. Don’t ban me plis.)

Personally I haven’t removed anything or banned anyone. I will do so if something reported is highly inappropriate, but other than that I would much rather be here if someone needs help, got any questions/suggestions/requests than play around and be the power tripping police if that makes sense.

And to be completely honest I find the whole moderation system a bit confusing and needs to be reworked a bit because I get reports for things that just the moderators of a certain community should be getting and resolving (I don’t care and it is not my place to judge if someone random person broke rule 3 on a random community that is not on this instance, just because the person reporting it is). Admin reports should just be this XY user from either this or interacting with this instance is acting inappropriately for the most part.

The only thing I definitely want blocked is Threads if they actually enable federation. But I think I am not a minority on that one.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings, I will go ramble somewhere else now :D

Yeah, Brandon (sorry, idk how to tag on the app lol) mentioned this. I was honestly surprised since I think it burdens instance admins with more responsibilities than they should have (that’s what mods are for, right?). Also, as he mentioned, it’s also a big risk when an admin goes rogue (or gets hacked like in lemmy.world). Definitely agree with his POV. I honestly thought you were limited to the specific instance you’re in. It does have a few pros, but I’m not sure that outweighs the cons?

Definitely not the minority. I’m honestly happy even the owner has the same POV as us. I wouldn’t want to force my opinions on anyone, so us being on the same page is a relief.

Do go on if you want. Lol. I’m not gonna stop you. :P

Yea, the system leaves a lot to be desired and makes me question if whoever designed it has any experience in moderating things. Hopefully with time it gets improved like everything else :)

You would think thats the case… I hope it doesn’t require something to go south for this to be changed.

(sorry, idk how to tag on the app lol)

@CheshireSnake@iusearchlinux.fyi should work. I think, it seems to be a bit buggy. Edit: it doesn’t work?

I don’t own it, I am just an admin, but I did ask the actual owner about it last week and he said we can block it.

Do go on if you want. Lol. I’m not gonna stop you. :P

I am busy nuking the little of what is still left of my Reddit accounts so you are safe till another day :D

Yes it did. Thanks! Sorry I replied late. I was playing. Lol. I usually don’t go on lemmy/reddit when I’m on pc. Does tagging someone auto-populate for you? I’m using liftoff and it doesn’t, unfortunately. I need to type everything including the domain.

Lmao. Carry on then. That’s important work.

Also, I do know the owner of the instance (not personally, just what his username is). My choice of words sometimes leave a lot to be desired. Sorry if it confuses you.

@CheshireSnake@iusearchlinux.fyi did this ping you? I replied to myself so you shouldn’t get a notification otherwise.

If you think I am the power tripping police: have you ever seen me mod? Everywhere but in 2 groups which would be completely pointless without basic enforced rules my only rules are don’t break TOS of whatever service we are on. Yea, I will sometimes joke tell someone I am gonna ban them, but I would never actually do so and hopefully they are all very much aware of that.

If you for some reason think I am referring to you or anyone else here: I am not, I am referring to Reddit mods/admins who are notorious for being just that.

I banned someone for reporting mildly offensive stuff after being inflammatory to people on lemmy.world. It’s one thing if someone’s being a butt to request you remove their comments, it’s another to antagonize them and then report them. I don’t know if anything’s been removed as far as posts here.

Nice.

Honestly thought that since we’re a small group we’d be relatively safe from those. Hey at least we have an entry in the modlog. iusearchlinux admins represent!

For some reason pinning messages gets put in the modlog and anytime we take adminstrator actions, it also shows up. If you report a comment or a post on another instance, it’s elevated to us because we’re the admins of here which I personally do not like but oh well. Everyone here behaves so I’ve only ever had to remove comments from our stinky brethren.

wait. why? Posts and comments on another instance? you can’t do anything (like delete) those, right? If I understand correctly, admin powers are limited to their own instances (like you can’t ban someone from lemmy.world if the community he’s in is another server, for example). Did I misunderstand or is that really a weird way of distributing reports? that sounds like a lot of reports to sift through, specially if you’re from a big instance.
