Basically the title. I hate the ad ridden offical Youtube app and would prefer to have it open in Firefox or some other browser. Is this possible? Is there a setting I missed? If it’s not possible right now can it be possible in the future?

Also I love Jerboa, perfect replacement for RIF, been very happy with it so far, much love!

Go in your options and disable the app. I use Firefox as well and it opens them up directly in there now.

Use Newpipe. It plays youtube (and several video sites’) videos without any ads nor trackings. No Google account needed.

Install it and set it as the app for opening youtube links in system settings.

Note that the app is not available in Google Play store. It can be installed from f-droid, or you can directly download its apk.

This issue is more of a problem with android itself rather than with jerboa… One of the easiest way to deal with it is to disable the official youtube app.

At least, that’s what I do.

Press and hold the Youtube app icon. Click App Info. Choose More. Scroll down to Open by Default. Toggle off the Open Supported Links.

If you don’t like the ads, you can use YouTube Revanced. The app offers a much better experience than in a browser (especially for me, with a slow device). Here’s a website you can download a pre-built from: www.revanced.io

Jerboa

Create post

Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won’t have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

Jerboa is made by Lemmy’s developers, and is free, open-source software, meaning no advertising, monetizing, or venture capital, ever. Your donations directly support full-time development of the project.
