I don’t know why they’d want to teach about a movie, but they SHOULD teach about the murderous theft of land and oil from the native tribes because that’s a very real and necessarily uncomfortable truth. And when you don’t teach truth, you only spread worthless dirty ignorance all around.

They’re talking about including the book in the curriculum, not kids writing about the film based on the book

Again I think they SHOULD include that book in the curriculum. Kids are not just resilient, they need to be aware even if it makes them question and feel uncomfortable. As Scorsese himself said about this movie “this history SHOULD make you feel uncomfortable. You think you’re going to go through life without being uncomfortable? Guess again.”
