I make this plea here, because there are many of you who actively practice magic and in addition this board’s love of social justice shows you to be decent and rational people.

Here is the deal, when I was young I was raised to believe in the supernatural, encouraged to develop psychic talents. I made sigils and strived to accomplish Astral Projection.

I never could project no matter how well I practiced, all that happened was I increased the quality of my dreams. They didn’t even become lucid or anything.

I began to worry that this meant that I had no soul, but still I kept at it on and off. I was happy to know that we lived in a world with multi-dimensional layers, the natural and supernatural running parallel to one another creating miracles. This made me happy.

I fell into an atheistic crowd that told me it was all “woo woo” (a term I despise for several reasons), and gave me debunks for everything. At first I believed there had to be some conspiracy involved, that perhaps these irate atheistic types simply invaded the sciences

I thought I was somewhat right when Dawkins was outed as a transphobe, Bill Nye made asinine comments about philosophy being useless, Sam Harris embraced Jordan Peterson, and the less said about Neil DeGrasse Tyson the better…

But no, ultimately, no mystical phenomenon can stand up to the scrutiny of requiring simple evidence, and everyone with genuine psychic power is shown to be a faker in the end.

So many people tell me this is a good thing, that it’s man giving up silly superstitions to embrace the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

But I see a darker image of reality, a world where we are born just to die, a universe that does not care to save abused children in need, and the knowledge that I will never see my dead loved ones again.

This lack of spirit in the world depresses me and makes me far sadder than you can possibly imagine, and I see nothing worth celebrating in a materialist world. I can come to no other conclusion outside of magic is supposed to exist, but doesn’t.

Please, I just want a reason to believe again, something that disproves or casts doubt on materialism and shows we live in a world of substance dualism.

I’d give anything for it, for magic to be real again.

I have friends far smarter than me who still believe in such things, they say that simply what I think of as magic isn’t what magic is or that the supernatural is in some place I can’t find. That gives me some hope, please Pagans of Hexbear, I’m begging you for help.

Make me a believer again.

Hexbear is transphobic, you’ll find no good answers here. I suggest you read The Soulist Manifesto. It lays out a political opposition to materialism from a trans and indigenous point of view. It also explains where to meet soulists.

And if you don’t want to read it, I can just tell you what piece of the puzzle you’re missing
