I’d prefer if they just required them not to be election deniers, puppets to a foreign power, threats to democracy and overall just not be outright dreadful people.
Democratic and Republican parties in other states also force presidential candidates to pony up to be included on their primary ballots, but such a fee doesn’t appear to have been imposed in Colorado in at least a decade.
“Colorado Republicans have an interest in making sure nonserious candidates don’t crowd the primary ballot,” Colorado GOP Chairman Dave Williams told The Colorado Sun in a text message. “These rules are in line with many other state parties across the country and serve to further professionalize our operations.”
Just another part of preventing political change in the two party system, and making sure politics serves the wealthy.
How does that even work considering states pay for the primary to be run?
Like, I fully get this if you were on the hook for the process, but states and local governments are the ones who put these clown show elections on?
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but the way I take it is that the State requires the parties authorization to put a candidate on the ballot for the primary. In order to get said authorization from the party, candidates have to pay up.
Please note that this system is totally fair though because you don’t have to pay the party fee to apply for and appear on the ballot for the general election. And as a bonus, by not bowing to the two main parties you get to appear on the ballot as a third party candidate which is very exciting and a great opportunity for you to learn more about our wonderful two party system!
I worked elections before and the primary process was something the state oversaw and codified. It wasn’t in Colorado, but it seems that colorado is also run by the state and requires a minimal filing fee or signatures to the SOS office.
Still not sure how the party has any say in who gets on the primary ballot.
Quick peak at title 1 in Colorado has primary appear 307 times. And there is a big section in it about primaries. Including a part that says the same people will run all primaries, which is basically saying a non partisan group, ie election officials.
And, all expenses incurred in the preparation or conduct of the primary election shall be paid out of the Treasury of the county or state.
So again, no effing clue where this 40k will go and why it’s necessary
“All these far right candidates are making bank with their grift. We’re the reason they have people to grift! How can we get in on this?” -Colorado GOP probably
yet another hurdle for the former spraytan-in-chief to overcome to get on the ballot in colorado… paying a bill.
The Plutocracy marches on.
