Look Vancouver, I grew up in Boston… if your litter is just cigarette butts you’ve fucking solved littering.

Boston has such prolific littering we fucking bronzed some of it…

That thing is more offensive than litter.

Most smokers are assholes and genuinely don’t care about stomping a butt and the city is too cheap and scared of homeless people to put out more ashtrays and garbage cans and hire more workers.

I was in the city this weekend and finding a place to put my butt was a hassle the few times I smoked away from my hotel, which did have an ashtray. You’d think they would have those disposal things attached to every bus stop but they don’t.

No because smoking is illegal everywhere in a city.

Can’t smoke on a sidewalk, at a bus stop or within three meters of a doorway or building vent. I guess you could stand in the middle of the street?

And this is why people don’t care. There’s like 3 places theyr allowed to be and they’re treated like pariahs so they just say “fuck it, everyone already hates me anyway.”

There are a lot of parallels to be drawn between smokers and any other addict and the problems that it brings to society. But no one has compassion unless your addiction has put you on the street.

Put a 5 cent return value on butts and watch them all vanish.

That a good idea that would solve the problem. Which means it’s unlikely to happen

Test the butts for DNA, if any of them come back a match send out a $100 fine for each one found

My retirement dream is to setup a crow box to train these fellas to pick up cigarette butts and trade them for peanuts. A decade later, hopefully all Vancouver crows will be primed to attack smokers to steal cigarettes.
